At the Shavano Family Office, our commitment to giving back to the community runs deep and that includes rolling up our sleeves and volunteering ourselves.
In May 2026, we were proud to support the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) in Australia at a thank you BBQ lunch in Sydney’s east to celebrate International Nurses Day alongside our wonderful frontline health workers.
International Nurses Day falls on 12 May and this year RRT, the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, marked the occasion on a significant scale.
Across more than 100 events in nine countries,RRTvolunteers served more than 52,000 meals to nurses, midwives and hospital staff, transforming hospital areas into welcoming spaces filled with hot food, fresh coffee and heartfelt thanks.
In Australia alone, the team hosted appreciation events at more than 35 hospitals.
Our Sydney event was a small but meaningful part of that global effort. Standing at the grill, serving burgers, and spending time with the people who care for our community was a genuine privilege for Shavano team members Dean and Zara Hales.
This year’s International Nurses Day theme, “Empowered Nurses Save Lives”, captured exactly why the day matters.
Nurses work around the clock, often when people are at their most vulnerable, and their compassion, resilience and professionalism form the backbone of our healthcare system. A meal, a short break, and a sincere “thank you” might seem like a small gesture, but to a nurse working a long shift, it’s a reminder that their work does not go unnoticed.
For us, the day was a reminder of why we invest in causes that build community resilience and make our country healthier. We believe in putting that commitment into action, not just through philanthropy but through showing up in person.
